In an effort to comply with Arizona and Federal requirements of informing residents, responsible parties and families to the number of confirmed positive COVID-19 virus cases within Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre, we will be updating this website on a regular basis.  The following is a summary of the number of positive cases in Arizona and at Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre, as well as what Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre has done in response to COVID-19.

Today is 2/12/2021.  In Arizona, there are 793,532 positive COVID-19 cases.  There are 2,303 Congregate Settings (Assisted Living, Long-Term Care Facilities, Rehab Facilities, Dialysis Centers, Hospice’s, Child/Daycare, Hospitals, etc) with positive COVID-19 cases.  At Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre, we had 74 confirmed positive residents who have been transferred to our segregated COVID unit. 82 employees have tested positive for COVID-19 and have followed the appropriate CDC quarantine and return to work protocols.

Since March Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre has put into place mitigation efforts guided by the Pima County Health Department, the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  Here are some of the efforts put in place:  stopped all visitors coming into Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre, requiring hand washing prior to entering the facility, temperature checks and signs and symptoms questionnaire for all individuals entering the facility, regular temperature checks and vital sign monitoring of all residents.  We purchase FDA approved cleaning products, increased the frequency of cleaning, especially high touch areas, placed a moratorium on group activities, consolidated units to maximize the efficient use of staff, encouraged residents to remain in their rooms, residents who leave their rooms are given masks and educated on social distancing, resident’s meal are served in their room.  Residents and staff are educated on infection prevention and control (hand hygiene, mask usage, coughing and sneezing protocols).  Universal face masking for staff – the different types and when to use each one, transmission-based precautions for any resident with suspected, presumed or positive test, purchase of personal protective equipment in large quantities whenever we can (gowns, face shields, eye protection, gloves, masks (N95, KN95, and surgical) and sanitizer, we treat everyone – staff and resident – as if they are positive for COVID-19.

Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre continues to update our policies and procedures, as appropriate, in response to COVID-19.  The guidance offered by the CDC, ADHS and Pima County is constantly reviewed and put into action in so that we put into place best practices for our residents and staff.  Additionally, we continue constant contact with the Pima County Health Department.

Today is 12/11/2020.  In Arizona, there are 394,512 positive COVID-19 cases.  There are 1,657 Congregate Settings (Assisted Living, Long-Term Care Facilities, Rehab Facilities, Dialysis Centers, Hospice’s, Child/Daycare, Hospitals, etc) with positive COVID-19 cases.  At Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre, we had 52 (residents) which includes individuals admitted from the hospital for recovery, those who have recovered, and those whom were admitted from other settings (including other Long-Term Care Facilities) for recovery.  Positive individuals admitted from other settings are placed on isolation precautions and the isolation is managed per CDC guidelines.  There have been 3 deaths in the hospital, 25 on our community COVID Unit.  21 employees have tested positive for COVID-19 and have followed the appropriate CDC quarantine and return to work protocols.

Today is 11/27/2020.  In Arizona, there are 318,697 positive COVID-19 cases.  There are 278 Congregate Settings (Assisted Living, Long-Term Care Facilities, Rehab Facilities, Dialysis Centers, Hospice’s, Child/Daycare, Hospitals, etc) with positive COVID-19 cases.  At Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre, we had 10 confirmed positive residents and have been transferred to our segregated COVID unit and 3 death in the hospital 2 on our community COVID Unit.  17 employees have tested positive for COVID-19 and have followed the appropriate CDC quarantine and return to work protocols.

Since March Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre has put into place mitigation efforts guided by the Pima County Health Department, the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).  Here are some of the efforts put in place:  stopped all visitors coming into Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre, requiring handwashing prior to entering the facility, temperature checks and signs and symptoms questionnaire for all individuals entering the facility, regular temperature checks and vital sign monitoring of all residents.  We purchase FDA approved cleaning products, increased the frequency of cleaning, especially high touch areas, placed a moratorium on group activities, consolidated units to maximize the efficient use of staff, encouraged residents to remain in their rooms, residents who leave their rooms are given masks and educated on social distancing, resident’s meal are served in their room.  Residents and staff are educated on infection prevention and control (hand hygiene, mask usage, coughing and sneezing protocols).  Universal face masking for staff – the different types and when to use each one, transmission based precautions for any resident with suspected, presumed or positive test, purchase of personal protective equipment in large quantities where ever we can (gowns, face shields, eye protection, gloves, masks (N95, KN95, and surgical) and sanitizer, we treat everyone – staff and resident – as if they are positive for COVID-19.

Sapphire Estates Rehab Centre continues to update our policies and procedures, as appropriate, in response to COVID-19.  The guidance offered by the CDC, ADHS and Pima County is constantly reviewed and put into action in so that we put into place best practices for our residents and staff.  Additionally, we continue constant contact with the Pima County Health Department.
